Today, we are talking about one of the key strengths of solid surfaces: their fire resistance. Not all solid surfaces receive the same classification, but at INDUTEC SOLID, we work with the one that has achieved the best results in both the Euroclass and the U.S. ASTM standard—Krion, the solid surface from the Porcelanosa Group.
This extremely important property of the material adds an extra layer of safety to our projects. Our clients gain an additional safety advantage, actively protecting their facilities, helping to reduce insurance costs, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
And now, let's talk about the specifics… Our projects are classified under ASTM E84 “Class A” and Euroclass B-s1-d0.
If we stopped here, these would just be more irrelevant data points that we assume are good, but let’s explain what this B-s1-d0 nomenclature means, and we’ll try to keep it as brief as possible—no promises though!
Euroclass B-s1-d0 classification
We can confidently say that Euroclass is divided into three aspects: Fire contribution – Smoke opacity – Flaming droplets.
Fire contribution: This ranges from A to F, with A being the safest and F the least. For example, A would be like a stone, completely fireproof. Our solid surface is B, demonstrating exceptional performance, especially compared to other solid surfaces on the market that achieve a C rating.
Smoke opacity: There are only three possible classifications: s1 – s2 – s3, from least to most toxic. We work with s1, which indicates that the smoke produced does not pose a health hazard.
Flaming droplets: Classified as d0 – d1 – d2, from least to most, indicating the material's ability to produce flaming droplets that contribute to the spread of fire. Indutec works with d0, meaning it contributes almost nothing to fire propagation.
